Cursed Child
Origin & Presentation
The Cursed Child represents a fracture in the deterministic order of the universe. The most esoteric theological research posits that these entities are paradoxical direct descendants of the First Men, ancient demiurges predating the formation of current pantheons. Since the First Men embodied pure concepts and lacked the desire or biology necessary for reproduction, the spontaneous appearance of a Cursed Child over the millennia is perceived as a cosmic glitch, an absolute violation of divine and natural laws.
Twin Anomaly
This anomaly triggers a self-correcting mechanism of the universe: the birth of a Cursed Child invariably and instantly causes the genesis of its polarized opposite on another continent. Their fates are intertwined and strictly opposed, defying any attempt at free will.
Fateful Destiny
The psychological drama of the Cursed Child lies in its impermeability to acquired traits. The child destined for a demonic fate will perpetually feel the call of murder and chaos. If taken in by a virtuous monastery, they may attempt to suppress their nature, but their acts of "goodness" will result in horrifically clumsy or dogmatically cruel outcomes. Conversely, the child with an angelic destiny is wired for benevolence. Manipulated by an evil cult, they will intrinsically reject evil, yet their mind may be twisted to commit massacres with a terrifying serenity, perceiving eradication as a form of absolution. Their very existence, though forever frozen in a child's body, possesses such karmic density that it can alter the course of history for an entire plane.
Cursed Appearance
The physiology of the Cursed Child reflects the absolute nature of their karmic alignment, an indelible mark imposed by the First Men.
The Chosen One (Angelic Destiny): This child, whose spirit is a wellspring of kindness and light, possesses breathtaking beauty, merging childlike innocence with the attributes of noble animals. Their hair may be sprinkled with immaculate swan feathers that shine with a gentle glow. Their eyes have the serene yet enchanting depth of a great feline, and delicate, pearlescent antlers may crown their forehead. Their movements exude a divine and soothing grace, reflecting the purity of their destiny.
The Forsaken (Demonic Destiny): Despite their soul being programmed for chaos and destruction, their mortal form is disfigured by repulsive animalistic growths. They retain the stature of a human child, but their skin may be marbled with dull scales. Their eyes are bulging, resembling those of a reptile, with horizontal pupils. Their ears stretch into vast, cartilaginous membranes reminiscent of a bat, and their feet are often prehensile, simian appendages with elongated claws. This ugliness poignantly reflects the absolute darkness of their fate.
Cursed Child Names
The names of Cursed Children are often given by cults, monasteries, or the (sometimes terrified) individuals who take them in. These names reflect the strong aura they emit, oscillating between divine concepts, virtues, or tragic burdens. Their cosmic nature transcending mortal biology, these names typically do not distinguish between genders.
Names: Miracle, Burden, Requiem, Thorn, Ash, Samael, Ophan, Chalice, Plague, Absolution, Virtue, Prodigy, Curse, Shaïtan.
They may also be referred to simply as "The Child" followed by the place of their appearance or the doctrine that raised them (for example: "The Child of the Misty Vale" or "The Child of the True Cross").
Racial Traits
The mechanics of the Cursed Child reflect their duality and gradual awakening towards their Cosmic Apex.
You have the following racial traits.
Age. You do not suffer the effects of aging and are immune to magical aging effects. You will remain physically a child until you are killed.
Size & Weight. Your body is perpetually locked in a state of childhood. You are Small in size and weigh about the same as a typical human child of around 10 years old.
Movement Speed. Your base speed is 7.5 meters.
Creature Type. You are a Humanoid. However, due to your divine resonance, you are also considered a Celestial (if Chosen) or a Fiend (if Forsaken) for any spell or effect specifically targeting these types (such as Detect Good and Evil).
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common as well as a language tied to your lineage: Celestial (for the Chosen) or Infernal (for the Forsaken).
Darkvision. The anomaly of your creation has altered your senses. You can see in dim light within 18 meters as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. Colors are perceived in shades of gray.
Unyielding Mind. Your destiny being already etched into the cosmic fabric, your mind resists mortal manipulations. You have advantage on saving throws against spells from the School of Enchantment.
The Chosen One (Angelic Destiny)
Your divine beauty reflects the burden of a celestial avenger.
Alignment. The nature of a Cursed Child is forged by an absolute cosmic determinism, rendering them incapable of adopting a neutral alignment; they are irreparably drawn to extremes. The divine essence of a Chosen One (angelic destiny) virtually guarantees that they possess a Good alignment at birth, most often Lawful Good. However, their actions and environment can alter their destiny throughout their adventures. If they undergo significant negative influence or deep corruption, they become a fallen being whose alignment does not gradually shift but radically flips to its absolute opposite. They then become Evil (Lawful Evil or Chaotic Evil) depending on the nature and severity of the corruption experienced.
Ability Score Increase. Your Wisdom increases by 2 and your Dexterity by 1.
Angelic Grace. Your sublime animalistic aesthetic fascinates. You gain proficiency in either the Persuasion or Animal Handling skill (your choice).
Apex: The Sublime Angelic Form. At level 5, you fulfill your destiny. As an action, you transcend your form for 1 minute, becoming an ideal of absolute beauty that subjugates and breaks the will of those who behold it. Your skin takes on the sheen of perfect marble, your eyes fill with tears of compassion, and majestic angelic wings, of immense span but tragically atrophied and unusable, unfurl from your back, dragging heavily on the ground. The air around you shimmers under the weight of this divine perfection.
From the moment of your transformation, each hostile creature within a radius of 9 meters must succeed on a Charisma saving throw (DC = 8 + your Wisdom modifier + your proficiency bonus) or be Charmed until the end of your next turn. Once during each of your turns, you can deal additional radiant damage equal to your character level to a target you hit with an attack or spell. You must finish a long rest to reuse this trait.
The Forsaken (Demonic Destiny)
Your monstrous body harbors a devouring entropy.
You have the following racial traits.
Alignment. The nature of a Cursed Child is forged by an absolute cosmic determinism, rendering them incapable of adopting a neutral alignment; they are irreparably drawn to extremes. The corrupting essence of a Forsaken (demonic destiny) virtually guarantees that they possess an Evil alignment at birth, most often Chaotic Evil. However, their actions and environment can alter their destiny throughout their adventures. If they experience significant positive influence or deep redemption, they become a transcended being whose alignment does not gradually shift but radically flips to its absolute opposite. They then become Good (Lawful Good or Chaotic Good) depending on the nature and strength of the redemption experienced.
Ability Score Increase. Your Charisma increases by 2 and your Constitution by 1.
Repulsive Aura. Your appearance evokes deep unease and dread. You gain proficiency in either the Deception or Intimidation skill (your choice).
Apex: The Terrifying Demonic Form. At level 5, you embrace chaos. As an action, you reveal the nightmarish monstrosity of your being for 1 minute. Dark or fiery concentric rings lined with dozens of rotating eyes erupt around you, and multiple pairs of asymmetrical, atrophied wings with broken membranes emerge from your back. These deformed wings are incapable of carrying you, granting you no flying speed, but they enhance your aura of unspeakable horror.
From the moment of your transformation, each hostile creature within a radius of 9 meters must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw (DC = 8 + your Charisma modifier + your proficiency bonus) or be Frightened until the end of your next turn. Once during each of your turns, you can deal additional necrotic damage equal to your character level to a target you hit with an attack or spell. You must finish a long rest to reuse this trait.
